Bring a Friend Day is THIS Thursday!

It is once again my favorite time of the month...Bring a Friend Day is here!

If you would like to join us and check out Operation Boot Camp of Knoxville, we would so love to have you! Thursday's workout promises to be fun and challenging. Why not join us bright and early (okay, maybe it's not quite "bright" yet when we meet, but we've got early covered!) to jump start your day.

This month, our Bring a Friend workout is on Thursday the 20th at 6am. We meet at the Lakeshore Park soccer pavilion at 5:45 and truly hope to see you there. If you need driving directions, just leave a comment and I will get back to you.

And here's a reminder that our first Lakeshore Park NIGHT CAMP begins in less than two weeks! We had a great preview workout last night and are hosting another one on Tuesday the 25th! It's FREE! Meet at the soccer pavilion at 6:15pm. See our website for more details about the night camp.

Camper testimonial

Testimonials like this define the reason that Operation Boot Camp exists. I am so amazed by this wonderful (now veteran) camper, who worked hard every single day and had amazing results to show for it. Our campers continue to be the proof that the program works. You put the hard work in, you get incredible results! Hoooaaah!

A day without Boot Camp is like a day without sunshine. After 2 months of Boot Camp, today was my first day without it. I missed getting up at 0500 and my body craved the workout. I feel like I never started my day.

I got an updated fitness assessment. Final totals--down 13 pounds, down a little over 8 inches overall, down 8% body fat. My VO2 Max improved about 2%. My blood pressure and cholesterol are down significantly. The only stat that didn't improve was my BMI. Why? I lost more from my hips than my waist so the ratio went up! All of my effort has definitely paid off. I hope to be able to fit Boot Camp into my schedule again soon. Thanks to all the supportive campers and dedicated instructors.

August camps start Monday!

Well our July campers finished the month today with a great big HOOOAAAAH during their final PT test. We are always so proud of our campers, and the final day of camp is such a testament to their hard work throughout the month. Congratulations to everyone.

As sad as we are to see one camp come to an end, we're so excited to begin our August camps on Monday. The GREAT news is that we're continuing our summer special. New campers can join for an amazing discounted price. We have two camps this month: 6am and 7:30am. Details, pricing, discounts and registration can be found at operationbootcamp.com. Can't wait to see everyone bright and early on Monday morning!

Now...on to celebrate July's camp tonight at our graduation party! Hoooaaah!

New groups and tools for Operation Boot Camp Knoxville!

Hi everyone! I am very excited to share some new tools and groups for you. These will help you to stay tapped in to everything related to Operation Boot Camp!

We've started a group on a new social networking site called Meetup.com. The idea behind Meetup is really cool. Basically, any group that hosts events, meetings, social programs, etc. can have a Meetup page. (For example, you could totally have a dog walking group if you wanted one!) Being a member of our Operation Boot Camp Meetup means you'll be updated on all upcoming Operation Boot Camp events. It's especially cool because we will keep you posted about when and where our free workouts take place. This is a great place to go to get updates on free Saturday workouts and Bring a Friend days.

So please sign up for our Meetup group! Also, please feel free to pass the word along to any friends who might be interested in Operation Boot Camp! Go to http://www.meetup.com/Operation-Boot-Camp-Knoxville/ to sign up today!

Next, I am super excited to announce that we are starting an Operation Boot Camp running group! Our plan is to coordinate weekly group runs around all the cool running spots in Knoxville. Our first run is going to be next Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (Wednesday is the 29th). If you would like to become a member of this group, please email Kellie. She will add you to the listserv and then you will receive weekly emails with updates including where and when each weekly run will occur. Kellie's email address is kpvogel [at] gmail.com.

Here's the scoop:

-The Operation Boot Camp Knoxville running group is absolutely free! We just ask that you please wear your Boot Camp shirt if you have one.

-The running group is open to the public, regardless of if you are a current camper or veteran. So if you've never done Operation Boot Camp, please feel free to join us for our runs! (You don't have to wear a boot camp shirt, since you won't have one!)

-This weekly group will help you achieve your running goals, whether you want to run in local races and earn personal best times or just get used to a regular running routine.

-Running with a group is FUN and motivating. Being a member of the group can help you become accountable to yourself and to the runs.

-We plan on running at a variety of locations, so you'll get a chance to see (and run) new parts of Knoxville! It's also safer to run with a group, and that's a huge plus.

-You'll get to meet new people!

-We will let you know the length of each run ahead of time. As the group grows, I anticipate that we can run in subgroups based on mile times and distance options.

While our running club is going to be awesome, here are a few things that it is not:

-This is not a substitute for the Operation Boot Camp program. Consider this a supplement to the program if you are currently a camper who is hoping to make running advancements (or be social!) or a way to help you maintain your results if you are a vet who is currently taking the month off.

-This is not an accountability program like Operation Boot Camp is. You can hold yourself accountable to coming to each run, but the Boot Camp staff will not do so.

-This is not a program where campers/runners should expect instruction. So come and enjoy the benefits of running with a group, but if there are Boot Camp instructors running, they are there to run with the group, not to instruct the group. Obviously, with groups, support kind of comes naturally, but there is no formal support/instruction built in to the running group.

I hope you are as excited about these new groups as I am! I hope to see you online at Meetup.com and on the trails with the weekly running group! Please email Kellie to sign up! HOOOOAAH!
